My Viper GC is installed, what BIOS’s areavailable for me to use, and which one should I use?

Once you have your Viper GC Extreme successfully installed and booting (see the Viper GC Extreme Installation Guide for this) you are going to need to flash it with the latest build of the Cobra BIOS.

There are two ways to go about flashing the chip: USB and Disc. To flash it using a disc simply burn the Cobra VGC file onto a blank DVD-R or +R and boot up the GameCube and press "A" when it promts you to. When burning the disc you'll want to only put a single BIOS onto it otherwise the Viper GC Extreme wont read it.

If you need to know how to burn a DVD that the GameCube can read check out the burning guide. If you've done everything correctly and the GameCube still wont read the disc you're most likely going to have to adjust the Laser POT value. You can read how to do this here.

If you'll going to flash it via USB (the easiest way) you'll first have to download and install the Viper GC Extreme USB drivers and tools. You can grab them from our downloads section along with the latest Cobra BIOS.

Once you've installed the driver for the Viper GC Extreme USB module you have to set the chip into "Programming Mode". You do this via the DIP switch on the USB Module. What you'll need to do is to set the #2 dip switch to on. You do this by sliding it right.

The DIP switch should now look like it does in the picture (above) with the RED "X" below it. Once this is done power on your GameCube *then* plug in the USB cable to your computer. It's very important to first power on your GameCube otherwise your computer will not be able to find the Viper GC Extreme chip.

Next you simply run the flashing application, select the BIOS file you wish to flash and select "Write". It will write the BIOS and then ask you to reset the GameCube.

Now, turn the GameCube off and set the #2 dip switch back of OFF. Lastly, turn the GameCube back on and you'll be presented with the Cobra BIOS screen.
